The Effect of Fear

In South Africa there is also a sense of fear. There is fear for your own life. There is fear of when you will get your next meal will be. There is a fear is if your government has men and women that will expound your opportunities and not limit. In Cry the beloved country there were a lot of fears among the different characters. Kumalo had a fear of finding his son and sister and making sure they were safe and sound. Absolom's girlfriend at the time had a fear of how she was going to provide her and her baby on the way because Absolom had left. From the book you could tell that the lives in the story were always fearing. There was always a feeling of sadness and a hope that something would happen to take away some of the fear. In the article below in the comment it talks about a tragic death in South Africa. This article below show that now there is still a great measure of fear.

  1. armer Piet Botes found guilty for murder March 24 2010 , 7:40:00

A 43 year-old farmer from Leeu Gamka in the Karoo Piet Botes has been found guilty of murder in the Oudtshoorn circuit court in the Little Karoo. Botes was accused of the murder and abduction of 13 year-old Elizabeth Martiens, the daughter of one of his farm workers.

On April 14, 2007 Botes offered to give Martiens a lift to her mother in Merweville after she visited her farther for the school holidays. Her decomposed body was later found on July 13, 2007 in an empty water tank on Botes' farm Weltevrede. Judge Vincent Saldanha said the case was primarily based on circumstantial evidence which included items belonging to Martiens that were found on the farm.

Saldanha said the state proved beyond reasonable doubt though that Botes was guilty of murder. Earlier on the court summarised evidence and testimony given during the murder trial as part of judgment procedures at the Oudtshoorn Circuit Court. Sentencing is expected on Friday.

  2. In this Article it talks about a guy who is a farmer in Leeu Gamka and he murdered a 13 year old girl. She was the daughter of one of his farm workers. The court found him guilty. In South Africa now there is still a major influence on fear. It is a lot harder to find people to trust and a lot of the environments there can be risky. In the book Aurthur Jarvis was shot in his own house by natives. Right now in South Africa it still has a major problems. In America I think we take for granted how safe and blessed we are compared to what South Africans have to live through on a daily basis.
